Tommell & Associates was founded in 1981 by Paul F. Tommell, L.S. as a regional Land Surveying company that dedicated itself to providing outstanding surveying and land planning services to a wide variety of clients and their projects. After twenty years of success, Paul and his son Jason expanded and complimented their business offerings by developing exceptional Engineering, Landscape Architectural, and Environmental Management services.

Jason Tommell, LS (NY)Jason manages and integrates diverse teams of technical professionals to efficiently achieve client's goals while challenging the fundamental assumptions of our core industries. He is passionate about providing our clients with unparalleled value by practically integrating many complementary services and fundamental business strategies into the land development industry.
In addition to Jason's qualification as a Licensed Land Surveyor, his primary function is in land assessment and land planning -- developing creative solutions to achieve sustainable designs. He has written complete and portions of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS). These studies have ranged from generic to detailed fiscal impacts of development projects.
Jason's education began "in the field" at 12 years old. He worked in many capacities while with Paul's land surveying company. Jason later earned his BA with a Humanities major from Washington College, MD and his MBA with a Leadership concentration from Norwich University.
Michael Brooks, RLA (NY) - Environmental ManagerMichael Brooks joined Tommell & Associates in March of 2003 and has 11 years of work experience. His approach has always been hands-on and he maintains a direct relationship with clients to ensure that the product is reached effectively and efficiently.
Mike believes the proper design of a project is reached by synthesizing as many perspectives and goals as possible and creating the most functional and practical designs possible. As a Landscape Architect, Mike has been trained in the art of manipulating one's experience in a space by controlling the special relationships within every design. Mike has also become an expert in wetland delineation and mitigation; he spearheads this aspect of Tommell & Associates' Environmental Management.
Mike earned his Associates Degree in Applied Science from Adirondack Community College and Bachelors in Landscape Architecture from SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry. In addition to his formal education, Mike has also held many positions that have provided him with unparalleled street smarts. Mike managed and maintained a 100-acre horse farm and has been very active in the horse industry throughout his life. His adaptive style was further honed while working closely with Professional Engineers, Architects and Landscape Architects during his developmental years in the industry. Mike is also very active in the community. He has held a Lieutenant's position with two local fire departments over several years. Mike has gained qualifications in various National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) courses. which he regularly exercises during various Critical Emergency Incident Management exercises throughout the year. Mike has the impressive capability to draw from these diverse experiences to provide our clients with his uniquely qualified perspective.
Kurt Heiss, LS (NY, VT) - Land Surveying ManagerKurt is Tommell & Associates' Land Surveying Manager. He is a highly experienced and qualified Professional Land Surveyor with special expertise in wetlands, hydrology and soils. His role in this Program will be to support the oversight of all Land Surveying related services and select environmental work including field investigations, inspections and assessments in support of the Program.

- B.S. / A.A.S. Surveying Engineering Technology, SUNY Alfred; AAS
- Mechanical Technology Design & Drafting, Adirondack Community College.
